Allan R. Bomhard

Allan R. Bomhard (born 1943 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American linguist. He was educated at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Hunter College, and the City University of New York, and served in the U.S. Army from 1964 - 1966. He currently resides in Charleston, SC. He has studied the controversial hypotheses about the underlying unity among the proposed Nostratic and Eurasiatic language families. He has published over fifty articles and six books on comparative-historical inguistics, as well as a number of books/booklets on Buddhism (see below).

The main part of this booklet is based upon a radio lecture given in Colombo, ?ri Lanka, in 1933 by Nyanatiloka Mah?thera (1878 - 1957) entitled "The Essence of Buddhism? and published by the Buddhist Publication Society as part of Fundamentals of Buddhism: Four Lectures (Wheel Publication no. 394/396 [1994]), pp. 1 - 13. The current version has been thoroughly revised, rearranged, and greatly expanded (material has been included from many different sources) - numerous quotations from the early scriptures have been added, and both Sanskrit and Pali terms are given for key concepts. 50 pp.
